This review contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
After seeing Deadpool & Wolverine this was a film I wanted to delve into. I have seen the films of Blade and Blade II, the Fantastic Four films but not watched Elektra yet.
Jennifer Garner was very good in Deadpool & Wolverine and deserves her flowers for her role as Elektra.
But her own film felt like a classic early 2000s film when there was these growing pains in the comic book adaptions where people were unsure if they should be action films or human story films or if they should be close to the comic book versions of the character.
The turn Elektra makes in this film feels unjust as well, Mark Miller who is played by Goran Visnjic, feels like he is in there just to kiss Elektra. Its not imaginative this film and it was hard to stay focused on this lackluster film.
She was made out to be this ruthless killer but then she meets this guy and it all changes her character when it seems unfathomable.
I liked Terrance Stamp as Stick and Kirsten Zien as Abby Miller was good, but this was a nothing film. This was better than Ben Affleck’s Daredevil from what I remember but it is a product of its time.
Garner deserved her comeback and entry into the MCU. She is a great actor and better than this film has shown.
The fight scenes were fine, but it feels like Hollywood wasn’t going to allow a women comic book film do well at that time. But we have seen that Captain Marvel and The Marvels are good films when done correctly.
It is forgettable but there is much worse than this out there, it is middle of the road and Marvel were struggling at this point like they were so much through this period.
